72 Year-Old Man Shot In The Face During Robbery

When: Thursday, February 5, 2004, at 2:00 p.m.

Where: Newton Area Police Station, 3400 South Central Avenue, Los Angeles

Los Angeles: On February 4, 2004, at around 2:00 p.m., three men described as male blacks walked in a convenience store, located in the the 300 block of West 39th Street. Once inside the store, one of the men showed a handgun and said "this is a robbery". A second man jumped over the counter and tried to search the store clerk. One of the men saw an employee inside the store activating the alarm and yelled "she's calling the police". Before the three men ran away from the location, one of them shot a 72 year old African American man once in the face.

The victim was taken to USCMC hospital and is listed in critical condition. The victim has been identified as Percy Taylor, a resident of Los Angeles.

The motive appears to be robbery and the suspects have not been identified.

A surveillance video tape will be made available during the news conference.
