email Captain McNeill Gardner was
born in Los Angeles, California and resides in Los Angeles County.
Gardner holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from Union Institute and
University, in Criminal Justice Management.

Gardner was appointed to the Los Angeles Police Department on April
15, 1996, and was assigned to North Hollywood Area after academy
completion. After one year in North Hollywood, Gardner was assigned
to Van Nuys Area, in 1997. Gardner earned an upgrade to Field
Training Officer in 1999, and continued to serve the residents of
Van Nuys, while training probationary police officers in the
development of their professional policing skills and commitment to
public service. In 2002, Gardner promoted to Sergeant, and was
assigned to Southwest Area, where he remained until 2004. Gardner
returned to Van Nuys Area in 2004, after selection as the Officer
In Charge of the Gang Enforcement Detail. Gardner served the Van
Nuys community in that position until 2007, when he promoted to
Sergeant II and was selected as the Officer In Charge of the Van
Nuys Area Vice Unit.

In 2008, Gardner had the privilege of being selected to the Topanga
Area Transition Team, and as part of that close-knit team assisted
in laying the groundwork for the 21st Los Angeles Police Department
Geographic Area, which became operational in January 2009. Gardner
served there, as both Assistant Watch Commander and Area Training
Coordinator, until October 2010, when he was selected for the
Commander's Aide position at Operations-Central Bureau.

In September, 2013, Gardner promoted to Lieutenant, and again
returned to North Hollywood Area to serve in the Watch Commander
position. In March, 2015, Gardner again returned to
Operations-Central Bureau, where he served as the Adjutant to the
Commanding Officer of that bureau, serving the Downtown Los Angeles
area, "the heart of the City."

On January 21st, 2018, Gardner was promoted to Captain I, and
selected to command the Rampart Patrol Division, where he has the
privilege of serving with the men and women of the Los Angeles
Police Department, who serve that community with dignity, honor and
distinction.

In his spare time, Captain Gardner enjoys hiking and fishing
throughout the Eastern Sierras with his wife and family.
