In recognition of outstanding service to the community and for exemplary display of professionalism and commitment, Volunteer Joe Di Rossa has been recognized as Volunteer of the first Quarter of 2011.
Volunteer Joe is currently assigned to the Community Relations at Northeast Area. Joe has distinguished himself as an exemplary volunteer due to his work ethic, dedication, teamwork, and sense of humor. Although tasked with an enormous and difficult job of training, mentoring, and leading the Northeast Cadet Post, he is always pleasant and ready to assist with any request for help by Northeast personnel. Joe is often found in the community relations office a minimum of three times a week assisting officers with the Cadet training and mentoring programs. On Saturday morning Joe can be found at Northeast Community Police Station at 6:00 am, preparing the Cadets for their 18 week Academy. Joe assures that the Cadets are squared away for the Academy, and assist with the transportation to and from the ARTC Academy.
Joe, an Army veteran, also assists the Cadets in marching, cadence, and other military drills that he is familiar with. Joe is also part of Northeast “Volunteer Surveillance Team,” and has worked on early morning hours in an attempt to catch burglary from motor vehicle suspects. Joe has worked numerous Curfew and Truant Operations throughout his tenure at Northeast Area.
In November of 2010 Northeast Community Relations Unit held their first carnival in the Cypress Park Community. Joe stepped up and committed to work the entire weekend, nearly 50 hours of his time, and helped raise thousands of dollars for the Cadet Program.
For the past two years Joe also recruited and participated in several golf tournaments sponsored by Northeast. Not only did Joe help in recruiting golfers, Joe lost a few balls on the course as well. Joe has also been part of the Northeast Area Baker to Vegas Support Team.
Joe has been married for the past 15 years and has four beautiful kids. Due to his outstanding knowledge of the CRO Unit, Joe has been sought out for his expertise by not only community members, but by Northeast officers as well. Joe is deserving of the distinction of being awarded Northeast Area’s Volunteer of the 1st Quarter of 2011. |
