Infants Dies in Fire

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, November 23, 1999

On Monday, November 22, 1999, at approximately 11:00 P.M., 77th Street patrol officers responded to a radio call of a structure fire with a possible baby trapped inside, located in the 3400 block of W. Hyde Park Boulevard.

Upon their arrival, the officers observed the front apartment on fire. The officers attempted to rescue the infant, but were forced back by the heat and flames.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire. Firefighters discovered the body of a 1 1/2 year old female child, deceased inside the bedroom.

The Los Angeles City Fire Department, Arson Detectives and the Los Angeles Police Department, Abused Child Unit, are conducting the investigation. The cause of death is unknown at this time and the origin of the fire is under investigation
