Victim Dies Using Public Phone

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Sunday, October 25, 1998

On Sunday, October 25,1998 at approximately 11:10 p.m., Victim Edward James Jr., 18 years of age, and a female companion were using a public telephone located at 4417 South Western Avenue. A male suspect approximately 25 years of age approached on foot. Then without warning the suspect drew a handgun and began shooting at James and the female. James sustained a fatal gunshot wound and he succumbed to his wound at the crime scene. The female also sustained gun shot wounds. She was transported to a local hospital and her condition is stable. The name of the female victim is not available for release. The suspect fled on foot from the scene after the shooting. The motive for this incident has not been established.

Los Angeles Police Department, South Bureau Homicide Detectives Jesse Linn and Rocky Sato are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident may contact Detectives Linn and Sato at 213-237-1310.
