"Argument Turns Into Shooting"

Los Angeles - On Friday morning, October 27, 2000, at approximately 12:05 a.m., the victim, Roberto Carlos Arevalo Vargas, 23 years old, was at the 2000 Body Shop, which is located at 949 West 66th Street in Los Angeles. Vargas was with several of his friends drinking beer and whiskey. During this drinking session an argument erupted between Vargas and a suspect. The suspect removed a handgun from his waistband and fired one round at Vargas, fatally wounding him. Vargas was transported to Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at 6:29 a.m. The suspect fled the location after the shooting and he is only described as a male Hispanic approximately 23 years of age.

The motive appears to be a verbal dispute.
