Chief Charlie Beck to Address International Forum on Gang Violence NR11467AJS

Los Angeles:  The Los Angeles Police Department today announced that Chief Charlie Beck will be making a presentation to an “International Forum of Experts on Gangs” set for October 12th and 13th at the British Home Office in London, England. The forum’s purposes are to identify international best practices for reducing gang violence and strengthen gang strategies currently applied in England and Wales. Announcement of the forum follows August riots in England which left five dead, sixteen or more injured and £200 million ($311 million USD) in property damage.

British Home Secretary Theresa May invited Chief Beck to share his knowledge and expertise based on his decades of personal experience as both a gang officer on the streets of Los Angeles and as a senior police administrator.

Delegates representing police and international agencies, as well as former LAPD Chief Bill Bratton, will participate in the closed two-day event. They include thirty-six gang experts from ten nations including Austria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Jamaica, Spain, Sweden, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Sponsored by the British Home Office and the British Association of Chief Police Officers, the forum will close with a reception at No. 10 Downing Street hosted by British Prime Minister David Cameron.
