Special Operations Bureau exercises line supervision over Air Support Division (ASTRO, Special Flights Section and the Support Unit), Metropolitan Division (SWAT, Mounted Unit, K-9 Unit, Underwater Dive Section, and B and C crime suppression platoons), and Special Operations Support Division (Gang Support Section and Traffic Coordination Section).
Special Operations Bureau provides the Los Angeles Police Department specialized tactical resources in support of operations during: daily field activities, unusual occurrences, and elevated threat conditions.
Special Operations Bureau exercises line supervision over all the Department's gang enforcement and gang strategies. The mission is to establish a Department wide collaborative, consistent and coordinated approach to abating criminal gang activity and narcotics trafficking with an emphasis on enforcement, intelligence gathering, investigation, prosecution, intervention and prevention. Special Operations Bureau provides support to the Counter Terrorism Bureau.
