Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky to Serve as This Year's Host

Van Nuys - Hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky has been selected as host of this year's annual Los Angeles Police-Celebrity Golf Tournament. The hockey legend will join Chief of Police Bernard C. Parks to host the 29th tournament on Saturday, May 20th beginning at 10 a.m. at Woodley Lakes Golf Course, located at 6335 Woodley Avenue in Van Nuys.

More than just a golf tournament, this family event also features attractions including LAPD displays of tactical equipment and specialty units like Narcotics, K-9, SWAT, and the Bomb Squad throughout the course. Food booths, carnival rides, a petting zoo, and other children's activities make this an ideal event for family or group outing.

Past celebrity golfers included Frank Sinatra, Jack Lemmon, Bob Hope, James Woods, Samuel L. Jackson, Joe Pesci, Jane Seymour, Jack Nicholson, James Garner, Dennis Franz, Smokey Robinson, Clint Eastwood and many more. This year celebrities scheduled to play include Richard Dreyfuss, Dennis Quaid, Joe Mantegna, Jack Nicholson and Cheech Marin.

Since its inception in 1970, the Golf Tournament benefits the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation, which provides emergency financial assistance to officers and civilians of the Police Department in the event of death, serious injury, illness or other catastrophic circumstances.

Traditionally held at Rancho Park Golf Course in West Los Angeles, this year's tournament will be held at Woodley Lakes Golf Course in Van Nuys due to renovations and other improvements at Rancho Park.

The public is invited to attend this event with tickets available at all Los Angeles Community Police Stations and at the gate on the day of the tournament. Adult admission is $4 and children 12 and under will be admitted free. Parking is also free. For more information, please call LAPD, Public Affairs Section at
213-485-3281.
