Reserve Officer Specialist Ken Arlidge has been with the West Los Angeles (WLA) Division of the LAPD for over 2 years. Officer Arlidge is a successful commercial and film director. His work often takes him to far away locations for extended periods of time. Yet he always has time to dedicate to WLA division, even though he lives outside the city of Los Angeles.
Ken has a passion for photography. It is part of his profession, and a serious hobby. We discussed upgrading the look of the police station through photography. The idea was to take pictures of WLA landmarks and put them throughout the halls of the building. Ken volunteered for the project. First he made use of his helicopter and together with Reserve Coordinator, Officer Reichling, he flew several mornings over WLA and captured breathtaking shots of the Getty museum, the Wilshire Corridor and Century City. Next he scouted ground locations and took more shots of the area, often at peril with traffic. Once the landmark shots were completed he focused on getting pictures of officers. He spent numerous days with as many officers as he could to get just the right picture. Ken used black and white negative to bring out a more dramatic background to each shot. He spent countless hours setting up and shooting pictures. The final result was an astounding array of pictures from which to choose. This resulted in twenty five large scale pictures being framed and put up throughout WLA Station. The feedback from the WLA staff and visitors has been overwhelming positive, and makes our station look like a gallery.
In just a little time as a Reserve Specialist, Officer Arlidge, has made huge contributions to the Los Angeles Police Department. His care, dedication and true selfless attitude are a true asset to the Department. |
