Bio

Captain Ed Sun joined the Los Angeles Police Department on September 9, 1991. He completed his probationary period at West Los Angeles Division. In 1993, he was assigned to 77th Division where he worked patrol and Special Problems Unit as a Police Officer II. In 1996, he was upgraded to Police Officer III and worked at 77th Division as a training officer and a vice operator. In 1999, he was selected to join the Metropolitan Division.

Captain Sun was a Detective for 14 years. He was a Detective I, II, and III. In that time, he worked at 77th Detectives, Detective Support Division, Detective Headquarters Division, Organized Crime and Vice Division, Internal Affairs Group, Major Crimes Division, Wilshire Detectives, and Commercial Crimes Division. He was the lead investigator on several high-profiled cases and was a federal taskforce officer with the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

As a Sergeant, Captain Sun was assigned to Pacific Division where he supervised patrol personnel, Special Enforcement Unit, and the Complaint Unit. He also served as the patrol adjutant at West Los Angeles Division.

In 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to Newton Division as the Watch Commander. In 2022, he was upgraded to Lieutenant II as the Commanding Officer for the Central Detectives.

In 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and is currently assigned as the Commanding Officer of the Olympic Patrol Division.

Captain Sun has a bachelor’s degree for Criminal Justice Management. His favorite pastime is spending the day at the beach and deep sea fishing.
