Manuel Chavez

Bio

Captain Manuel Chavez was born and raised in San Diego, California. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Administration.

Captain Chavez joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 2001 and worked a variety of patrol, undercover, and investigative assignments, including Harbor Patrol, Juvenile Narcotics-School Investigative Buy Unit, and Hollenbeck Patrol where he was a Field Training Officer and a VICE Investigator.

In 2009, Captain Chavez promoted to Sergeant and served as Patrol Supervisor at Southeast and Wilshire Divisions. As a Sergeant II he served as an Assistant Watch Commander at South Traffic Division and was the Squad Leader at Special Operations Division – Ethics Enforcement Section Undercover Squad.

He was promoted to Lieutenant in November 2016 where he was the Harbor Patrol Watch Commander. He later served as an Officer In Charge at Internal Affairs Division, Deputy Chief’s Adjutant for Operations-Valley Bureau, and the Adjutant to the Director, Office of Support Services.

In March of 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, and assigned as the Rampart Patrol Commanding Officer. At Rampart, Captain Chavez oversaw the various patrol functions and daily operations. During his tenure at Rampart, in collaboration with the mayor’s office and various internal and external entities he was the law enforcement lead for the MacArthur Park task force with the goal of improving quality of life issues, reducing the fear and incidence of crime, and further improving community relations with the Westlake/MacArthur Park community. The collective task force efforts were successful showing a drastic reduction in violent crime and improvements in the daily quality of life for the community members of Westlake/MacArthur Park.

In July of 2025, Captain Chavez was upgraded to Captain III and assigned as the Hollywood Area Commanding Officer where he is currently assigned.

Captain Chavez is the proud father of a son and daughter who play competitive baseball and softball. In his free time, Captain Chavez enjoys fishing and watching both of his children compete in their sporting events.
