Bio

Captain Fernandes joined the Los Angeles Police Department in September of 1997 after completion of his active-duty service in the United States Navy.  As a police officer, he worked a variety of assignments to include uniform patrol, narcotics, gangs, and Field Training Officer (FTO).  As a Detective, Captain Fernandes worked 77th Detectives, Gang Operations Support Division, and Force Investigation Division.  As a Sergeant, he worked Hollywood Division in patrol, the Hollywood Entertainment District, and was assigned the Area Adjutant.  As a Lieutenant, Captain Fernandes worked Southeast Division as a Watch Commander and was a section Officer-in-Charge at Robbery-Homicide Division.

In April of 2022, Captain Fernandes was promoted to Captain and assigned as the Patrol Commanding Officer at Southwest Area.  In October of 2022, he was re-assigned as the Patrol Commanding Officer at Hollywood Area.  In May of 2023, he was promoted to Captain II and assigned as the Commanding Officer of West Traffic Division.  In December of 2023, he was re-assigned to Metropolitan Division as the Assistant Commanding Officer.

Captain Fernandes earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice at California State University Northridge and a Master of Science degree in Emergency Services Administration from California State University Long Beach.  He is also a member of the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi.  Captain Fernandes has attended several leadership schools and is a graduate of West Point Leadership.

Over the years, Captain Fernandes has volunteered at his church, local schools, and as a youth sports coach to mentor and train youth in his community.

Captain Fernandes is married to his college sweetheart, and they reside in Los Angeles County with their two children.  On his off time, he enjoys spending time with his family while hiking, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors.
