Police Administrator Gabriel Gnanapragasam was born in London, England, moved to Sri Lanka, and settled in Los Angeles area. He attended Pasadena High School, Pasadena City College, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California at Irvine (UCI). While at UCI, Mr. Gnanapragasam discovered his passion to serve the Los Angeles community while participating in the City of Los Angeles’ Summer Food Service Program, a program established to provide nutritious meals for children.
Mr. Gnanapragasam has over 20 years of experience with the City of Los Angeles, including centralized personnel experience with the Department of Public Works, centralized budget experience with the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Fiscal Group, and has overseen administration for LAPD’s Information Technology Bureau. Prior to his appointment as Commanding Officer for the Forensic Science Division (FSD), Mr. Gnanapragasam served as the Assistant Commanding Officer for the Evidence and Property Management Division.
Mr. Gnanapragasam values health and wellness from a holistic approach and believes we can do more for others when we take care of our physical, mental, and emotional well-being. He believes that in finding the right balance between work and the other areas of life we value, we become the best version of ourselves. He aspires to lead with authenticity, gratitude, and working in partnership with the staff at FSD.
