Captain Raul Jovel has had the privilege to serve the community members of Los Angeles over the past 26 years. As a police officer, he worked Rampart and Wilshire Divisions and proudly discharged the duties of Field Training Officer. As a Sergeant, he worked Southeast Division, Use of Force Review Division, Hollywood Division, and Metropolitan Division in “C” Platoon. After promoting to Lieutenant, he was assigned to Newton Division as a patrol watch commander, Detective Commanding Officer, and Gang Impact Team Officer-in-Charge. He later transferred to Media Relations Division as the Lieutenant, Officer in Charge of the Media Relations Section. After being promoted to Captain, Jovel served as the Commanding Officer of Rampart Patrol Division from February 2022 to February 2023.
Captain Jovel is currently the Assistant Commanding Officer of Force Investigation Division.
Captain Jovel grew up in the Southern California area. After graduating high school, he had the honor to serve in the United States Marine Corps as an enlisted infantryman. His tour of duty included deployments overseas. After completing his commitment honorably, he applied to the Los Angeles Police Department and attended the academy in September 1996.
Captain Jovel graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University Los Angeles with a degree in Criminal Justice and from Woodbury University in Burbank, California with a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership. He has also graduated from the West Point Leadership Program, and the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.
