Bio

Captain Kolenda was raised in Pocatello, Idaho. Upon graduating high school, she moved to Los Angeles and received her Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Santa Monica Community College. In May of 1995, she joined the Department as part of Academy Class 5-95. As a Police Officer, Captain Kolenda was assigned to Wilshire and 77th Divisions, where she worked patrol, special problems unit, vice, and was promoted to a Field Training Officer.

In 2002, Captain Kolenda promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to Southwest Division. While at Southwest, Captain Kolenda worked as a field supervisor, complaint sergeant, and the Patrol Adjutant. After completing her time at Southwest Division, she worked as a field supervisor at Harbor and Rampart. In 2007, Captain Kolenda was promoted to Sergeant II and assigned as an investigator at Internal Affairs Group. She then moved on to an Officer-In-Charge position at Planning and Research Division. In 2010, Captain Kolenda became an Assistant Watch Commander at Hollenbeck Community Police Station.

In 2012, Captain Kolenda was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to Central. In 2014, she returned to Hollenbeck where she worked numerous assignments including administration Lieutenant and Acting Detective Commanding Officer. In 2016, she was promoted to Lieutenant II and assumed the role of Officer-in-Charge of the Gang Impact Team, Hollenbeck Division. As a Lieutenant, Captain Kolenda worked as the Operations Central Bureau Gang Coordinator, Adjutant to the Deputy Chief, and Commercial Crimes Division.

In 2022, Captain Kolenda was assigned as the Officer-in-Charge of the Los Angeles Regional Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC). In the role at ICAC, she was responsible for working with 100 affiliate law enforcement agencies throughout five Southern California counties. Her team oversaw the grueling job of investigating horrendous crimes that were committed on our most vulnerable victims, children. During her assignment at ICAC, the task force conducted Operation Protect the Innocent which resulted in 150 arrests of sexual predators.

In March of 2023, she was promoted to Captain and assigned to Pacific Patrol Division. While at Pacific Patrol, Captain Kolenda was responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of patrol resources, evaluating critical incidents, and building positive relationships with the community. In March of 2024, Captain Kolenda was upgraded to Captain II and assigned as the Commanding Officer of Detective Support and Vice Division.

Kristin received her Bachelor of Science in Occupation Leadership from California State University, Long Beach.
