Captain Michael Lorenz grew up in Long Beach, California, where he attended Long Beach Jordan High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps, participating in two major deployments to the Middle East, and achieved the rank of Sergeant.
In 1999, Captain Lorenz embarked on his journey with the Los Angeles Police Department. His career is a testament to his versatility and adaptability, starting as a Police Officer in Southeast, Hollenbeck, and 77th Street Patrol Divisions. In 2007, he was promoted to Detective, where he held investigative and supervisory assignments at Central, Force Investigation, 77th Street, and Olympic Divisions. Captain Lorenz achieved promotions to all three detective ranks. In 2020, he further broadened his horizons as a Lieutenant, serving as a Watch Commander in Hollywood Division during the 2020 Civil Unrest and returning to 77th Street Division for the third time in his career as the Lieutenant II—Detective Commanding Officer.
Currently, he holds the rank of Captain. He is the Patrol Commanding Officer at Southwest Division, which includes over 320 sworn and civilian employees that provide crucial police services to South Los Angeles, specifically to the University of Southern California and the Los Angeles Coliseum, along with the Adams-Normandie, Baldwin Hills, Baldwin Village, Baldwin Vista, Crenshaw, Exposition Park, Jefferson Park, Leimert Park, Union Square, University Park, Village Green, West Adams, and Western Heights neighborhoods.
Michael has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Management and a Master of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
