Bio

Captain Kelly Muniz  is a 26-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and has been most recently assigned to Central Area as the Commanding Officer. This command covers the variety of communities in Downtown Los Angeles, including the Arts District, the Fashion District, the Historic Core, China town and Little Tokyo to name a few.

Throughout her career, she has enjoyed a variety of assignments from her early years as a Police Officer at Rampart Division, to nearly a third of her career at Hollywood Division as both a Police Officer and a Lieutenant. Other assignments include Internal Affairs, Metropolitan Division, the Office of Operations, Gang and Narcotics Division, and Detective Support and Vice Division.

A Southern California native, she enjoys the variety of people, cultures, and activities the City of Los Angeles offers and is proud to serve in a law enforcement capacity.

Captain Muniz revisited her education when she was pregnant with her first child in 2006 and completed a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Organizational Management from the University of La Verne in 2013. During this time, she had a second child, promoted to Sergeant, lead a crime suppression team, then a narcotics unit. Captain Muniz returned to the University of Southern California in 2016 where she earned the Executive Master of Leadership graduate degree from the University of Southern California in 2019.
