Bio

Captain Yvonne Ortiz was born and raised in Southern California. In 1993, she obtained an Associate of Arts degree in Administration of Justice while simultaneously pursuing a career with the Los Angeles Police Department. Then in 2008, she attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

Captain Ortiz joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1994. As an officer, Captain Ortiz was assigned to Pacific Area and Rampart Area where she worked assignments in patrol, Juvenile Car and became a detective trainee. In 2001, Captain Ortiz promoted to the rank of Detective at Juvenile Division where she investigated crimes against children including child homicides.

As a detective, Captain Ortiz was also assigned to Internal Affairs Division and Detective Bureau where she held the position of the Department’s Domestic Violence Coordinator from 2014 to 2018. As the Domestic Violence Coordinator, she was responsible for the expansion of the Citywide Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) Program from 10 Areas to all 21 Areas.

Captain Ortiz promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2018 and was assigned to Security Services Division and in 2019 became an Officer-In-Charge at Internal Affairs Division where she managed supervisors responsible for the investigation of personnel complaint investigations. In 2021, she was promoted to Captain, assigned as the Patrol Commanding Officer of Olympic Area. In 2022, she became the Commanding Officer of Central Traffic Division, and currently the Area Commanding Officer of Southeast Area.
