Captain Robert Peters has served with the Los Angeles Police Department since 1994. A second-generation LAPD officer, Captain Peters continues a family legacy of service to the City of Los Angeles. Throughout his career, he has held a variety of critical assignments, including patrol, gang enforcement, narcotics, vice, parole compliance, gang investigations, and Training Division.
In 2015, Captain Peters was promoted to Sergeant, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the Department’s first Special Problems Unit dedicated to policing the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority transit system. As part of that effort, he helped develop tactics and operational protocols tailored to the unique challenges of mass transit policing.
Captain Peters was promoted to Lieutenant in 2021. In that role, he served as a Patrol Watch Commander, Officer in Charge (OIC) in Internal Affairs Division, and OIC of West Bureau Homicide.
In 2024, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to Hollywood Area as Patrol Commanding Officer. In 2026, he was promoted to Captain II and currently serves as Assistant Commanding Officer of Force Investigation Division.
Raised in Los Angeles County, Captain Peters holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Arts in International Politics and Military Affairs from The Citadel. In addition to his law enforcement career, he is an honorably retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, where he served for more than 30 years, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Those experiences helped shape and refine the leadership philosophy he carries into public service today.
Captain Peters resides in Los Angeles with his wife, an LAPD Lieutenant.
