Captain Robert Peters has served the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) since 1994, bringing decades of diverse law enforcement experience to his current role. As a second-generation LAPD officer, Captain Peters has upheld a family legacy of service to the city. During his career Captain Peters has held a variety of critical assignments, including patrol, gang enforcement, narcotics, vice, parole compliance, gang detective work, and at Training Division. His expertise includes both field operations and specialized units, underscoring his adaptability and commitment to the department’s mission.
In 2015, Captain Peters was promoted to Sergeant, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the first-ever Special Problems Unit tasked with policing the Metropolitan Transit Authority. As a part of that team, he contributed to the development of innovative tactics and protocols specifically designed for the unique challenges of mass transit policing.
Captain Peters’ leadership continued to evolve, and in 2021, he was promoted to Lieutenant. In this role, he served as a Patrol Watch Commander, Internal Affairs Division, and as OIC of West Bureau Homicide.
In 2024, he was promoted to Captain and now serves as the Commanding Officer of the Hollywood Patrol Division, where he oversees the safety and patrol operations of one of the City’s most dynamic and high-profile areas.
Captain Peters was raised in Diamond Bar, California, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and is in the process of completing his Master of Arts in International Politics and Military Affairs from The Citadel in South Carolina. In addition to his distinguished law enforcement career, Captain Peters is an honorably retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, having served over 30 years, including deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, where his leadership skills and philosophies were learned and honed.
He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and their dog, continuing to serve both his community and country with dedication and integrity.
