Bio

Captain Robin Petillo was born in New York and raised in Southern California.  She joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1998.  Captain Petillo has worked a variety of assignments in 16 divisions, within all four bureaus across the City.

Petillo has held the ranks of Field Training Officer, Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. Some of her notable assignments include being a supervisor in the Officer Representation Unit, where she assisted and defended officers during the disciplinary process, and as Officer-In-Charge of Employee Relations Group, where she became a subject matter expert in labor relations.

In 2016, Petillo was awarded the Department’s Life-Saving Medal.

Petillo promoted to Captain in 2021 and has been in command of Van Nuys Patrol Division, LAX Field Services Division, Risk Management and Legal Affairs Division, and is currently the commanding officer of Recruitment and Employment Division.

Prior to her employment with LAPD, Captain Petillo earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.  In 2019,  Captain Petillo earned her Master of Arts degree in Leadership from the University of Southern California.

Captain Petillo is a member of the Los Angeles Women Police Officer and Associates (LAWPOA) where she served as 3rd Vice-President.  She is also a proud member of the Latin American Law Enforcement Association (LALEY).  She continues to assist numerous employees in the promotional process by providing her knowledge and expertise during promotional seminars and emphasizing the importance of advanced education.
