Bio

Captain Robin Petillo was born in New York and raised in Southern California. She joined the Los Angeles Police Department in March 1998. Captain Petillo worked a variety of divisions as a Police Officer and Field Training Officer which include Hollenbeck Division, Southwest Division, 77th Division, and Harbor Division.

In 2008, Petillo was promoted to the rank of Detective and was assigned to West Los Angeles Division where she investigated crimes related to burglary/theft and vehicles.

In 2009, Petillo was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to Harbor Division as a Field Supervisor. In 2010, Petillo transferred to Southeast Division where she worked as a Field Supervisor, as well as assignments as the Senior Lead Officer Supervisor, and the Officer-In-Charge of the Parole Compliance Unit. During her time at Southeast Division, she was proud to be asked to work on loan to the newly-formed Community Safety Partnership in Imperial Courts, as well as serving as a mentor to two young students in the Operation Progress program.

In 2015, Petillo was selected to work as a supervisor in the Officer Representation Unit, where she assisted and defended officers during the disciplinary process.

In 2017, Petillo was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned as a Watch Commander at Valley Traffic Division. She then transferred to Rampart Division and served as a Watch Commander, as well as the Assistant Detective Commanding Officer.

In 2019, Petillo was selected as the Officer-In-Charge of Employee Relations Group, where she quickly became a subject matter expert in labor relations and the numerous Memorandum of Understandings for Department employees.

In 2021, Petillo was selected as the Adjutant to the Commanding Officer of the Training Bureau and assisted in the re-organization of the entire Bureau.

On July 4, 2021, she was promoted to the rank of Captain and proudly serves as the Van Nuys Division Patrol Commanding Officer.

Captain Petillo earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). In 2019, Captain Petillo completed her Master of Arts in Leadership at the University of Southern California (USC).

Captain Petillo is a dedicated member of the Los Angeles Women Police Officer and Associates (LAWPOA) where she served as 3rd Vice-President. She is also a proud member of the Latin American Law Enforcement Association (LALEY). She continues to assist numerous employees in the promotional process by providing her knowledge and expertise during promotional seminars.

Captain Petillo donates to numerous animal-related non-profit organizations. In her spare time, she enjoys bicycling, paddle boarding, photography, and travel.
