Bio

Commander Jonathan Pinto is a 27-veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. Upon completion of High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps as a Military Police officer and as a Criminal Investigator. After serving seven years on active service, he received an honorable discharge from the USMC. He joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1996 and was assigned to Rampart Area.

He then transferred to Southwest Area as a police officer, worked a variety of assignments including patrol, bike patrol, foot beats, and as a training officer. He was assigned as a Senior Lead Officer in Harbor Area.

In 2005, he was promoted to sergeant. His supervisory assignments included Southeast, Rampart, and Southwest. His experience included patrol, gang supervisor, and assistant watch commander. He was the Officer in Charge of the University Park Task force in Southwest Area, which included working in collaboration with USC’s Department of Public Safety. In 2014, Pinto was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to Newton Area as a watch commander and later as the Officer in Charge of the Newton Gang Impact Team. He then transferred and was the Officer in Charge of Employee Relations Group.

In May of 2017, Commander Pinto was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Commanding Officer of Hollywood Area Patrol Division. In August of 2018, Captain Pinto was transferred to the newly formed Innovation & Strategic Planning Division as the Commanding Officer. In June 2019, Commander Pinto was assigned to South Traffic Division as the Commanding Officer. In February 2021, Commander Pinto was transferred to Training Division as the Commanding Officer.

In April of 2022, Commander Pinto was promoted to the rank of Commander and was assigned as the Assistant Commander Officer, Operations-West Bureau. In February on 2023, Commander became the Assistant Commander Officer, Operations-South Bureau.

Commander Pinto received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University. He has a master’s degree from the University of Southern California in Executive Management of Leadership. He has also graduated from LAPD West Point Leadership program, Sherman Block Supervisor Leadership Institute, and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
