Bio

Captain Michael Rippe was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School in 1987 and attended the University of Nebraska where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Captain Rippe joined the Los Angeles Police Department in 1996 and worked several patrol divisions. In 1998, Captain Rippe met his wife Natalie when they were both assigned to North Hollywood Division. They were married in 2001 and have three children.

In 2005, Captain Rippe promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to Newton Division as a patrol supervisor. In 2007, Captain Rippe promoted to the rank of Detective and was assigned to the Hollywood Division Narcotics Enforcement Detail. For the next eleven years, he worked in the field of narcotic enforcement at various areas to include Hollywood, Newton, Central and ultimately Gang and Narcotics Division.

In 2018, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and returned to Hollywood Division as a patrol watch commander and later took on the position of the Commanding Officer of Detectives. In July of 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and remained at Hollywood Division. One year later, he was promoted to Captain II and assigned as the Commanding Officer for LAX Field Services Division. In May of 2025, Captain Rippe was promoted to the Area Commanding Officer at Wilshire Division. As he has throughout his career, Captain Rippe remains committed to serving the communities of Los Angeles and supporting the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department.
