Attempt Homicide Investigation

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the Attempted Murder of a 21-year-old male Hispanic. On Thursday evening, April 26, 2001, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Rampart Patrol Officers were flagged down by a citizen, and directed to the scene of a drive-by shooting, at Grandview Avenue and 11th Street. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim down on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. An LAFD Rescue Ambulance responded to the location and transported the victim to Los Angeles County Medical Center, for emergency surgery. The victim was listed in critical condition.

The investigation revealed witnesses heard a single gunshot and observed the victim fall to the ground.

The suspect’s vehicle fled the scene, southbound on Grandview Avenue. The vehicle was described as a dark blue Hyundai, no further description. The suspect was only described as a male Hispanic.

The motive for this shooting is believed to be gang related, as the victim is a known local gang member. The suspect, vehicle and weapon are outstanding.

Anyone with additional information regarding this crime is urged to contact the Rampart Homicide Unit at 213-207-2051.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
