"The Suspect in a Fatal Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision is Identified"

 

Los Angeles: On April 5, 2002 at approximately 10:00 P.M., a hit and run traffic collision occurred on Pacific Coast Highway west of Sunset Boulevard.

A 2001 Chevrolet Metro was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway when his vehicle was struck by a 1992 Honda Civic that was traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway. The Honda crossed over the double yellow lines into the path of southbound traffic and collided with the Chevrolet Metro.

The Metro's four occupants, three males and one female, were transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to UCLA Medical Center. All four sustained serious injuries and were admitted.

The passenger in the Honda, Lidia Reyes, 33 years of age, a resident of Riverside, was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department Personnel.

The driver of the Honda fled the scene of the accident without identifying himself.

The suspect has been identified as Edward Contreras, a resident of Arleta, Ca. He is described a male Hispanic, 31 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 180 pounds, black hair, brown eyes. The suspect has numerous tattoos on his arms, left leg, and back. A photo of the suspect is available at West Traffic Division.
