Victim of Hit and Run Traffic Collision Dies from His Injuries

Los Angeles:  On July 3, 2005, around 11:00 p.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and Westmoreland Avenue in the City of Los Angeles.

Alberto Mejia, a 53-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was walking across Santa Monica Boulevard at Westmoreland Avenue when he was struck by a dark colored, possibly black, 2000-2002 Honda Civic 2-door LX or DX, traveling eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Mr. Mejia was thrown into the left side of the suspect’s vehicle, shearing off the driver’s side view mirror.  The driver of the vehicle drove away from the collision and failed to stop to identify him or herself or render aid to Mr. Mejia.

Mr. Mejia suffered extensive blunt force trauma and was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department to an area hospital where he died on August 11, 2005, as result of his injuries.

Detectives M. Kaden and J. Mapson, from Central Traffic Division, are investigating this fatal traffic collision and are asking for the public’s help to identify the person responsible for Mr. Mejia’s death.  The detectives can be reached at 213-972-1853.  On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
