Carjack Suspect Arrested for Murder

Los Angeles: LAPD officers arrested a carjack suspect for murder after the stolen vehicle he was driving collided with another car, killing the driver.

On Thursday, November 27, 2008 at about 11:15 a.m., 19-year-old Darryl Lynch, a Los Angeles resident, attempted to carjack a woman in the Vons parking lot at Pasadena Avenue and Avenue 24.  Lynch ran from the scene when the victim began to scream.  Several minutes later, Lynch walked over to another victim’s vehicle, which was located in the Vons lot.  Lynch pulled the victim out of his car and drove it away northbound on Broadway.

At about 11:30 a.m., a Central Traffic Division officer saw Lynch driving southbound on Olympic Boulevard at a high rate of speed.  As the officer attempted to make a traffic stop at Venice and Hope Streets, Lynch sped northbound on Hope Street and collided with a vehicle, which was traveling westbound on Pico Boulevard.

The 68-year-old driver of the vehicle and her 44-year-old passenger were transported to a local area hospital.  The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital and the passenger was treated for chest pain.

The victims’ names are being withheld until their families have been notified.

Lynch was transported to a local area hospital and was treated for a laceration to his head.  Lynch will be booked for murder, pending his release from the hospital.
