Southwest Detectives Investigate Homicide

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT

Wednesday, December 22, 1999

In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 18, 1999, 28 years old Demetrius Phillips and a friend were standing in the front parking area of the apartment building located at 4000 block of West Adams Boulevard. At 1:25 A.M., a 1990's, four door, beige or gray Dodge Intrepid with four male occupants parked at the curb in front of the building. A male black suspect got out of the car and approached Mr. Phillips, shooting him several times with a handgun. The suspect got back in the car and fled the location. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died as the result of his injuries at 6:20 A.M.

There are no suspects in custody at this time. The motive for this attack has not been determined. Anyone with information regarding this murder is encouraged to call Southwest Homicide Detectives at 213-485-6571.
