Double Murder-Suicide Investigation

February 4, 2004

Los Angeles: On February 4, 2004, at about 8:00 a.m., Rosendo Santillan, 35 years of age, was taking his four year-old son to school along with 17 year-old Cynthia Solorio. As they were pulling out of the driveway at 3537 Garnet Street, Javier Trujillo, who lives in the rear house at that location, armed himself with a handgun and approached the victim’s vehicle. Trujillo shot Mr. Santillan for unknown reasons once in the chest and then shot Ms. Solorio multiple times in the upper torso. The four year-old boy was not hurt. Trujillo then walked back to the rear house and barricaded himself inside. There was no further contact with the suspect.
Two Los Angeles City Fire Rescue Ambulances responded and provided emergency medical treatment to the victims at the scene and transported them to USC Medical Center. Mr. Santillan died as a result of his injury. Ms. Solorio is listed in critical condition for multiple gunshot wounds to the face and shoulder.
When Hollenbeck Uniformed Officers entered the rear house of the location they found the suspect dead as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
