Two Children Struck By Gunfire

Los Angeles: On January 19, 2004, Newton Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call in the 200 block of West 41st Place.

Upon the officers’ arrival, the father of the victims, a 10 year-old boy and a 6 year-old girl, stated that at approximately 3:45 a.m., a male Black or Hispanic man knocked on his apartment door. When the father answered the door, the man told him to open the security gate. The father did not open the gate at which time the man produced a handgun and fired several rounds into the apartment. The victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their arms, legs and feet. They were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and are expected to fully recover from their injuries.

The incident does not appear to be gang related and there is no apparent motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information regarding this incident please contact the Newton Area gang Impact Team, at 323-846-6566. On weekends or during off-hours, contact the 24-hour toll free number at the Detectives Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
