Parents Arrested For The Murder Of Their 3˝ Month Old Baby Boy

"Parents Arrested For The Murder Of Their 3˝ Month Old Baby Boy"

Los Angeles: On Friday, January 23, 2004, at around 1:00 p.m., 3 ˝ month old Edwin Carlos Ramirez, was suffering from nausea and was taken to Pacifica Hospital. Due to the baby’s deteriorating condition, he was taken by ambulance to Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Doctors examining the child found indications of old and recent broken ribs and other signs that led them to believe that baby Edwin was the victim of "Shaken Baby Syndrome". Detectives from the North Hollywood Division and Juvenile Abused Child Unit were immediately notified and responded to the hospital where the baby later died from brain damage.

During the investigation, the detectives found that the baby was treated on January 16, 2004, at Pacifica Hospital for a fractured right arm. The baby was also taken to the hospital two times prior to January 23, 2004, for severe cases of nausea.

Josephina Guadalupe Ojeda Ramirez, the 25 year-old mother of baby Edwin, told detectives that she watched 26 year-old Efrain Ramirez Garcia, the father of the baby, violently shake baby Edwin before he was taken to the hospital.

On Thursday, January 29, 2004, both parents were taken into custody and arrested for the murder of 3 ˝ month old Edwin Carlos Ramirez.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the detectives at the Abused Child Unit, at 818-756-8748. On weekends and during off-hours, please call the 24-hour toll free number for the Detective Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
