Man Gunned Down in Gang Related Shooting

Los Angeles: Police say a 31-year-old man was gunned down amid gang violence yesterday evening while walking on a sidewalk in North Hollywood.

At about 11:40 p.m., police were dispatched to a man down radio call in the 7900 block of Bellaire Avenue, and found Alvaro Calderon lying on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest.

Calderon was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he later died.

According to investigators, Calderon was walking south on Bellaire Avenue, when an unidentified gunman confronted him and blatantly shot him. The gunman fled in a small white vehicle.

No suspect has been identified in the shooting, which is believed to be gang-related, detectives said.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call North Hollywood Homicide Detective Richard Wheeler at 818-623-4075. During off-hours or on weekends, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (529-3855).
