Former NFL Football Player Lawrence Edward Smith Dies at the Age of 50

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, July 19, 1999

Pacific Area detectives are investigating the death of Lawrence Edward Smith, 50 years old. Smith, a former NFL football player, died in his sleep on Sunday, July 18, 1999. Smith went to bed on July 17, 1999, at approximately 11:00 p.m., and was discovered by his wife on July 18, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. Smith apparently died of natural causes.

Smith was under the care of a doctor and had several medical conditions. Cause of death is undetermined pending a postmortem examination by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

This investigation is not being considered as a homicide.
