"Mother Shot Dead as Family Witnesses Killing"

 

Los Angeles: On July 26, 2002 at approximately 6:15 p.m., 31 year-old Los Angeles resident Rosa Maria Garcia, arrived at her family residence with her husband and two children, and was killed by an unknown murderer.

On July 26, 2002 at approximately 6:15 p.m., 31 year-old Los Angeles resident Rosa Maria Garcia, arrived at her family residence with her husband and two children, and was killed by an unknown murderer.

The home, located on the 1200 block of East Cruces Street, has a gate securing the driveway. Garcia exited her vehicle and began to open the gate, allowing her husband to drive the vehicle into the enclosed driveway area. As she proceeded to push the gate open, gunshots rang out approximately one block away in the area of 1300 East Cruces Street.

Struck in the head by one bullet, Garcia fell to the sidewalk mortally wounded. It is unknown if Garcia was the intended target or the victim of a stray bullet.

Garcia was transported to Harbor/UCLA Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is being conducted by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Area Homicide Detectives.
