Mother Sought for Child Abduction

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is requesting the assistance of the media to seek the public’s help with information to locate a child illegally abducted by her mother.

On July 31, 2002, the missing child’s father contacted the 77th Street Area Community Police Station to report that the suspect, Los Angeles resident 51 year-old Joyce Joann Thomas, had taken the child from her home and did not tell the father where she was going and where her residence was located.

Thomas is described as a female black, brown hair, brown eyes, 5’5" tall, and weighing approximately 200 lbs. The child, eight year-old Taylor Deaner White, is a female Black, 3’5" tall, and weighs approximately 65 pounds.

Investigators initially contacted Thomas who was residing within the Los Angeles area. Thomas then took the child to another location and did not leave a forwarding address. Police believe Thomas is still currently living in the Los Angeles area and is moving to avoid being found by police.

Photographs of the child and the mother are available at the 77th Street Area Community Police Station, Crime Analysis Unit, 7600 South Broadway, Los Angeles, 213-485-4175.

Anyone with information regarding the location of Joyce Joann Thomas is urged to contact the 77th Street Area Community Police Station at 213-485-4164. On weekends and during off-hours, please call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL or 1-877-529-3855.
