Los Angeles-- On Wednesday, June 27, 2001, the Houston Police Department’s Bicycle Relay Team will be arriving in Los Angeles as part of their 20^th Annual Bicycle Ride to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A 27 member team will ride bicycles from Houston to Los Angeles to New York (4,690 in 15 days). This is an unparalleled volunteer effort to raise funds for research and patient aid programs. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollenbeck Division and Central Division bike units will join the Houston Police Department at Valley Boulevard and the 710 Freeway at approximately 9:37a.m. on Wednesday, June 27, 2001. The Los Angeles Police Department is proud to be participating with the Houston Police Department as they ride through the streets of Los Angeles.

The officers from the Los Angeles Police Department and the Houston Police Department will then follow a route through East Los Angeles and conclude in front of Parker Center, located at 150 North Los Angeles Street, at approximately 10:00 a.m. At Parker Center, Captain Mark Curran from the Houston Police Department will meet and say a few words to the crowd and bicyclists along with Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief J.I. Davis who will be attending the pep rally and celebration on behalf of Police Chief Bernard C. Parks.

The media and public are invited to welcome the officers from the Houston Police Department and the Los Angeles Police Department when they arrive at Parker Center.
