Shooting Investigation in Newton Division

"Shooting Investigation in Newton Division"

 

Los Angeles - On Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at approximately 10:15 P.M., Alfredo Chavez, age 32, was driving his vehicle in the area of Gage Avenue and Avalon Boulevard with Ricardo Reynoza, age 28, in the right front seat. A green vehicle pulled alongside the van and several shots were fired into the van. Reynoza sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck. Chavez sustained a through and through gunshot wound to the left arm, he was treated at USC Medical Center and released.

Chavez reported that at about 10:00 P.M., he had been directed to a house near the 110 Freeway by Victim Reynoza, where Reynoza exchanged words with two unknown males. As they left the area, they were followed by the males to the area of the shooting.

The motive is unknown; no suspects have been identified.
