Newborn Baby Abandoned
Los Angeles: On June 13, 2002, at approximately
2:00 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Devonshire Area officers responded
to a radio call of a newborn baby found abandoned. A resident of an
apartment in the 14600 block of Parthenia Street, Panorama City, was
awakened by the cries of an infant and discovered a newborn baby outside the
apartment, in the bushes.
The infant, a female of apparent Hispanic descent, was
discovered with the umbilical cord still attached and unclothed. The infant
was transported to Children’s Hospital and is reported to be in
satisfactory condition. She is under the jurisdiction of the Department of
Children and Family Services.
The investigation is being conducted by the Devonshire
Detective Section, Major Assault Crimes Unit. Detectives are concentrating
their efforts to locate the mother and are seeking the public’s
assistance. Under the circumstance in which the infant was found, there is
concern for the medical condition of the mother.
