Drive-By Shooting Leaves One Dead; One Injured


 

Los Angeles: On June 10, 2003, at about 12:40 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call at 11984 Hoyt Street in Lakeview Terrace. Upon arrival, the officers discovered two Hispanic males being treated by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics for gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. An 18 year-old resident of Lakeview Terrace, died as a result of his wounds. The other victim, a 16 year-old, also a resident of Lakeview Terrace, survived his wounds and is in critical condition at a local hospital. The 18 year-old victim's name is being withheld pending notification to his family.

The investigation revealed the victims were walking on the sidewalk when they were approached by a light colored compact vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle fired numerous gunshots, striking both victims. The unknown suspects were described as young Hispanic gang members.

The crime is gang-related.
