Driver Found Dead in Convertible on Freeway

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is asking the public's help in providing information on the circumstances of man's death on the southbound Golden State Freeway, near the Osborne Street off ramp, on June 11, 2005.

The 39-year-old driver of a black Ford Mustang, Federico Galvan Menesses of Pacoima, was found dead around 11:25 PM in his car after it was struck by a blue Honda. The Honda's driver said the Mustang was stopped on the freeway when the collision occurred, but the collision may not be the cause of death.

Witnesses told CHP officers investigating the collision that they had seen a white SUV stopped near the convertible on the freeway and two Hispanic men fighting.

Detectives from LAPD's Foothill Division found evidence that pointed back to an earlier connection between the white SUV and the black Mustang. Both cars may have been involved in a hit-and-run collision near Van Nuys Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard, about a half hour before the collision on the freeway.

Menesses, in the Mustang, may have hit the white SUV and refused to stop, then the SUV driver chased the Mustang onto the freeway. The SUV driver was described as a 27-year-old Hispanic man, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 200 to 250 pounds, with a shave head.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Foothill Detective Lenane at 818-834-3115. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (529-3855).
