As a result of the media coverage, a citizen notified the Department and provided information on the whereabouts of Asaoka.  Officers made contact with Asaoka, he advised that he was "ok", and wished to remain at his current location.  He did not want to return to his previous residence.
The reporting party was notified and advised of the developments, as well as Asaoka’s right to privacy.

Los Angeles:   The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding, Ryu Asaoka, a Japanese exchange student.

On June 14, 2012, around 7:15 p.m., Asaoka was seen in the area of Olympic Boulevard and Rimpau Avenue, near the Los Angeles High School campus, where he was attending Adult School.

Asaoka is a 23-year-old male Asian with black hair, brown eyes, is 5 feet 6 inches tall, and weighs 132 pounds, with a small build, and light complexion.

He has no family in the Los Angeles area and his disappearance is out of character according to fellow students.

Asaoka may be frequenting areas with large Japanese populations in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Asaoka is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department, Missing Persons Unit, at 213-996-1800.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
