What:
Press Conference

When:
Friday, March 8, 2002 at 10:30 a.m.

Where:
Southeast Area Community Police Station, 145 West 108th Street, Los Angeles, CA.

Los Angeles: On Thursday, March 7, 2002, Southeast Operations Support Division (OSD), Homicide Detectives arrested three juvenile suspects, ages 13, 14 and 15, who are believed to be responsible for the brutal slaying of eighty-one year old Ruby Scott.

On August 1, 2001, at approximately 1:00 p.m., neighbors in the area of 10101 South Anzac Avenue were concerned after not seeing Ms. Scott. Scott had resided in the neighborhood for over thirty years and was seen outside her residence on a daily basis. Southeast Area patrol officers responded to Scott's residence to conduct the welfare check and discovered her dead inside the house.

The subsequent investigation by Detectives John Zambos and Mark Hahn revealed that the suspects entered Scott’s residence and brutally assaulted her. Ms. Scott died from her injuries, which were a result of the assault.

The six-month long investigation by detectives has led to these arrests. The names of the suspects are being withheld due to their ages.

This media advisory was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
