LA Community Supports Public Safety With Passage of Proposition Q
"LA Community Supports Public Safety With
Passage of Proposition Q"
Los Angeles: Last Tuesday, March 5, 2002, the voters of Los
Angeles, faced with a choice to support or not support the passage of
Proposition Q (the 911-Police-Fire-Paramedic Citywide Security General
Obligation Bond), responded to the challenge by voting to support passage of
Proposition Q. Proposition Q passed after receiving the requisite 2/3
"yes" votes.
Responding to the news, Los Angeles Chief of Police Bernard C. Parks
exclaimed, "Thank you; Thank you; Thank you, Los Angeles."
Proposition Q is a $600 million general obligation bond, for
construction, repair and renovation of police and fire stations and public
safety facilities throughout Los Angeles. Proposition Q projects includes
the construction of two new police stations, the replacement of four police
stations and the badly needed repair of 11 police stations.
Further commenting on the news of Proposition Q’s passage, Chief Parks
stated, "We went to the community seeking their support and they, as
they have for decades, responded in kind. The community’s support of this
proposition is a mandate for the need for efficacy. It sends a clear message
of the community’s unwavering support for the men and women of the Los
Angeles Police Department, and for public safety in general."
This press release was prepared by Lieutenant Horace E. Frank, Officer in
