Tip Received Stops Student In Tracks

Los Angeles: On Monday, March 15, 2004, at about 9:45 p.m., Van Nuys Area Night Watch Detectives received a telephone call from a concerned parent of a Birmingham High School student. This students parent told detectives she had overheard the subject tell another student that he was going to bring a gun on campus and commit a shooting.

Detectives, working in conjunction with Los Angeles Unified School Police, were able to identify the subject as a 16 year-old male White and a student at Birmingham High School.

Based on the information received from the parent and School Police, LAPD detectives conducted a follow up to the subject's residence located in the 16700 block of Parthenia Street in Northridge. At the residence, detectives recovered 53 rounds of varying calibers of live ammunition and two BB guns. The investigation also revealed that the suspect was in the process of obtaining a firearm, which he would have had access to in a matter of days. The subject was acting alone and there are no other suspects involved in this case. Due to the suspect’s age, his name will not be released.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Van Nuys Area Detectives, at 818-756-8371. On weekends and during off-hours, please call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
