Man Killed During Gang Dispute Was Unintended Target NR120105cj

March 5, 2012

Los Angeles:  LAPD Rampart Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for the murder of a 22-year-old Los Angeles resident.

On February 28, 2012, around 12:50 p.m., Rampart Area officers responded to a shooting call in the 700 block of South Alvarado Street.  When they arrived they found a man lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso.  Los Angeles City Fire Department rescue personnel responded and transported the victim, identified as 22-year-old Tomas Saquic, to a local hospital.  He remained there in critical condition until March 2, 2012, when he was pronounced dead at 12:03 a.m.

Investigators believe that local gang members were involved in a dispute with an unknown person, which escalated into a shooting.  It does not appear that Saquic was involved in the dispute or the intended target.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Rampart Area Homicide Detective, Detective Michael Arteaga at 213-484-3650.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247).  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
