News Conference to Reach Additional Possible Victims of Sexual Attacks

"News Conference to Reach Additional Possible Victims of Sexual Attacks"

WHAT: News conference to reach additional robbery and sexual attack victims.

WHEN: Thursday, May 13, 2004, at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE: North Hollywood Police Station Community Room, 11640 Burbank Boulevard, North Hollywood.

Los Angeles: Detectives from North Hollywood Division are calling for a news conference in an effort to reach additional possible victims of a predator who was arrested on Monday, May 10, 2004.

On May 6, 2004, a 17 year-old female was abducted by a man who dragged her at knife point, into his car while she waited for friends in the area of McCormick Street and Tujunga Avenue. The victim fought the suspect for several minutes before she able to get free and run away. The suspect sped away in a metallic blue Chrysler PT Cruiser.

On May 10, 2004, detectives received information that a metallic blue Chrysler PT Cruiser was parked at the Advantage Rent-A-Car, located at 5728 Lankershim Boulevard. Evidence found in the car led to the identification and arrest of 27 year-old Damian Fernandez, a resident of North Hollywood who was on Parole. Detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and recovered additional evidence that linked him to the crime.

Detectives believe Damian Fernandez may have committed other attacks, but the victims may have not reported the incidents. Photographs of the suspect will be available for the media.

North Hollywood Detective Mike Coffee is conducting the investigation. Anyone with information that may link the suspect to other crimes is urged to contact him at 818 623-4075.

This news release was prepared by Public Information Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section, at 213 485-3586.
