Crime Prevention Fair and Open House

 

Los Angeles: The Northeast Area Community Police Station will host its annual Open House on Saturday, October 12, 2002, Between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the station parking lot at 3353 San Fernando Road. This year's theme is "Crime Prevention" and will include a crime prevention fair.

Northeast Area consists of 22 diverse communities with approximately 250,000 residents. This event will showcase the Los Angeles Police Department with displays from SWAT, DARE, Narcotics, Air Support, Mounted Unit, K-9 Unit and much more. Los Angeles Police Chief Martin H. Pomeroy will be present as well as Councilmen Ed Reyes, Tom La Bonge, Eric Garcetti, and Nick Pacheco. Police Chief Nominee William Bratton also has been invited.

The Senior Lead Officers who are assigned to various areas in the community will be available to greet their constituents. Security professionals will be present to provide crime prevention tips. Public Health Service will be providing free Health screening. Guided tours of the station will be offered during the Open House.

There will be activities for all ages. Charlie Tuna from radio station K-BIG will be on hand to greet all in attendance. Moc Services is providing a DJ who will play music as well as a moon bounce for the kids, along with free balloons. Halloween safety tips will be given to youngsters and parents to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween. Free fingerprinting will be provided by the Northeast Reserves. The Los Angeles Dodgers will display a baseball memorabilia trailer with a pitching machine and fun games for all. The Los Angeles Historical Society will present its Mobile Police Museum for all to view. A barbecue fundraiser will be provided by our local area business police support group, BLEND (Business For Law Enforcement In Northeast Division), and the Community Police Advisory Board (C-PAB). They will be offering Carne Asada tacos, rice, bean, tortillas, salsa, drinks, popcorn, for a nominal amount throughout the day. Hot Dogs will be provided free to all children 12 and under.

This event is designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate participation in local anti-crime efforts and to strengthen neighborhood-police community partnerships.
