Man Shot and Killed

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding two men responsible for the shooting death of a 32-year-old man.

On Thursday, September 27, 2007, at about 7:30 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to an ambulance shooting at 7th Street at Hoover Street. When officers arrived they saw the victim down on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where he later died.
Investigators discovered that the victim was getting out of a vehicle when three suspects confronted the victim. One of the suspects was armed with a baseball bat and another with a handgun. While the victim was on the ground suspect-1 fired several times striking the victim. The suspects were seen running from the location and getting into multiple vehicles. Witnesses were able to write down the license plate number of one of the vehicles.

Rampart’s, Violent Crime Impact Team along with the Gang Task Force conducted follow-up investigations at several locations based on the license plate information. At about 12:20 p.m., Wilfredo Portillo, 29, was observed by officers driving the suspect vehicle. The vehicle as stopped at Victoria Avenue at Susana Street in the city of Carson. Portillo was taken into custody and arrested for 187 PC Murder. The weapon is still outstanding.

The motive for the murder is unknown. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

Two additional suspects remain at large. They are described as male Hispanics, 5’6” in height and 20-30 years of age. One had a shaved head.
