13-year-old Boy Shot and Killed in Los Angeles Detectives hope to talk with additional victims to find out more information NR11081SF

Los Angeles: Rampart detectives investigate what appears to be a gang related shooting that occurred on the evening of Monday, February 21, 2011.

On Monday evening, around 7:25 pm, three young men standing on the northwest corner of Temple Street and Benton Way were approached by several males who got out of a nearby parked car.  The car was described as a dark colored possible 2000-2001, Toyota Camry.  During the investigation, it was learned that the suspects walked up to the young men and at least one of them opened fire.  Immediately after the shooting, they went back to their car and drove away from the scene.  One victim, a 13-year-old boy, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics.  Detectives are asking that the two additional victims come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call LAPD Rampart Division Detective J. Motto at 213-484-3639. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.  Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477). Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.”  Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
