Los Angeles:  The LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information about the shooting and murder of a man and injured another victim in South Los Angeles.

On November 16, 2011, around 3 p.m., 20-year-old, Mykel Washington was riding a mini-bike and 21-year-old, Michael Douver Jr. was the passenger in the 1350 block of West 84th Place.  A gunman was standing at the southeast corner of 84th Place and Normandie Avenue.  As the victims rode north on Normandie Avenue and turned east onto 84th Place, the gunman began firing at the victims.  Both victims were struck by gunfire.  The suspect ran east on 84th Place and got into the passenger side of an awaiting vehicle.  The car left the scene east on 84th Place.

Los Angeles City Fire Department Rescue Ambulance responded to the scene and transported both victims to a local hospital where Douver Jr. was pronounced dead a short time later. Washington is currently in stable condition.

There is no information about the suspect at this time. The weapon has not yet been recovered, and detectives believe that the motive is possibly gang related.
